Iranian men sentenced to death after just 15 minutes to defend themselves
Iran executed a former national karate champion and another man on Saturday for allegedly killing a security official during nationwide protests, despite pleas by relatives and criticism that their trial relied on forced confession.
The two men executed on Saturday had been convicted over the death of a member of the Basij paramilitary force militia, who prosecutors said was stripped naked and killed by a group of mourners who had been paying tribute to a slain protester, Hadis Najafi. Three others have been sentenced to death in the same case, while 11 received prison sentences.

Several hours later, he returned home to confirm his wife's death and was subsequently arrested. He expressed his intention to kill his wife upon his return if she had still been alive. Honor killings, a practice where individuals are murdered by family members for alleged honor violations, are illegal in Iran. However, Article 301 of the Penal Code allows for reduced sentences for husbands who kill their wives under certain circumstances. The detrimental impact of Article 301, which leads to an increased number of femicides, is evident in the case of Romina Ashrafi. Romina was beheaded by her father simply because she had a boyfriend. The father committed the murder after his lawyer assured him that the maximum sentence for killing his daughter due to 'honor' would only be 3 years. Despite being sentenced to 9 years in prison by the judges, he was released after serving just 2 years. When the judge asked him why he had chosen to kill his daughter instead of Bahman Khavari, the man with whom Romina had eloped, he responded, 'If I had killed Bahman Khavari, they would have sought revenge against me. However, this did not happen with my daughter.'

Question (off camera): "Does it mean the hikers won''t be freed before President Ahmadinejad''s trip to New York?)
"I usually avoid commenting on political issues but anything can happen in politics. As far as judicial processions are concerned, I asked the court several time within the five past hours when I was inside dealing with another lawsuit. I asked again when I was leaving and was told the judge was on holiday and would not be back until Tuesday."

STORYLINE
After hours inside Tehran''s Revolutionary Court on Sunday, the lawyer for two jailed American hikers said that the second judge responsible for signing the release paper of his clients is on holiday and will not be back until Tuesday.
Masoud Shafiei is waiting for a second, key signature on bail arrangements for a possible release of his clients, Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal, convicted of spying.
Asked if he thought the release would happen before President Ahmadinejad''s trip to New York where he will attend the annual UN General Assembly meeting, Shafiei said: "I usually avoid commenting on political issues but anything can happen in politics."
"I asked the court several time within the five past hours when I was inside dealing with another lawsuit. I asked again when I was leaving and was told the judge was on holiday and would not be back until Tuesday", he added.
Shafiei says one judge signed the documents on Saturday but a second judge has to sign before the bail can be posted.
Shafiei was in court again on Sunday, trying to complete the paperwork on the 1 (m) million US dollar bail deal for Bauer and Fattal.
The two were sentenced last month each to eight years in prison, and no timeframe has been set for the pair''s release.
Iran''s foreign minister said on Saturday the courts are willing to cancel the Americans'' sentences in the "near future."
Bauer and Fattal say they may have mistakenly crossed into Iran while hiking in northern Iraq.
